Meet the Team: Jason Domanski

Jason Domanski | Controller

Current City: Chicago, IL

Hometown: Rockford, IL

Next up in our series is our controller, Jason Domanski. Jason has worked at both startup and growth stage companies, including our CEO's previous company, Sportvision, and as Controller at 1871. As Controller of Rise Gardens, he is responsible for all financial statements and human resources. He's a registered CPA and has a Master's Degree in Tax from University of Illinois.

Why did you choose to work with Rise Gardens?

I love start-ups and I love food. The possibility to work on product that I am really proud of was something I could not pass up.

How has Rise Gardens changed how you are eating?

I snack a lot healthier. I constantly have sugar snap peas and Little Bing tomatoes growing in the garden. In addition, I don't buy or waste lettuces any more. I always have at least two lettuces ready to harvest and another few in the nursery.

What’s your favorite dish to cook?

Fish tacos. It's nice having fresh cilantro whenever you need it.

Do you have any special secret talents?

I can read very boring material for long durations.

Tell us about your gardening experience.

I'm fairly new to gardening. The Rise Garden allows people with no experience to have great outcomes. Experimenting with what you can grow is part of the excitement. I've had some real success with strawberries. Currently, I'm growing a lot of herbs and green beans. I also really like keeping the garden stocked with kale and swiss chard.

What book are you reading right now?

The Great Influenza by John Barry

What are you watching on TV right now?

The Office re-runs (because it's 2020 and I need a laugh)

How do you spend your free time?

Chasing a 7 year old

Ask and answer any other question you want to share.

One thing about the Rise Garden that I try to explain to people is how interesting and beautiful it is. In addition, its been a great tool to get my daughter to try new foods. There is a downside to this as she is now a competing mouth for the tomatoes and strawberries.
