Ask An Expert: Plant Care Tips

If you are brand new to hydroponic gardening, or gardening in general, we wanted to share some very basic tips for harvesting your plants.

Angelo Kelvakis, our resident plant scientist, took some time away from his experiments to talk about how and when to harvest lettuce, other leafy greens, herbs and how to know you've let something grow for too long.

He also touches on how to pollinate plants that flower like tomatoes and peppers.

Angelo graduated from Loyola University with a degree in Environmental Science and Environmental Policy. While at Loyola, he ran The Institute for Environmental Sustainability, which is essentially a large facility for aquaponics and greenhouse research. He has published research on nutrient uptake rate equations for climate change modeling. He has been at Rise Gardens for a year and a half and has spent much of his time here experimenting with plant varieties, developing our app. His next projects will include figuring out the most productive way to grow microgreens and even rooted vegetables in our system.

We'd love to hear your plant care tips as well! Please feel free to share them below.
